2018 WSOP Planning Part II: Best Low to Mid Stakes Tournaments in Town

If you haven’t checked out Part I in this 2018 WSOP planning series, which is on preparing for a hot summer, please do so. My goal is to help tourists and locals, especially first-timers at the WSOP, plan for an enjoyable series.

In Part II, I’m going to help the low and mid stakes tournament players find the most profitable events on the summer schedule, and not just WSOP gold bracelet tournaments.

Best Tournaments at the World Series of Poker

Beginning May 29, and running through the WSOP Main Event in July, the Rio will host Daily Deepstack tournaments. These are side events that don’t award gold bracelets, but they are quite profitable. It’s not uncommon for more than 1,000 players to sign-up for these tournaments.

  • $250 No-Limit Hold’em (1 pm)
  • $200 No-Limit Hold’em Big Blind Ante (4 pm)
  • $365 No-Limit Hold’em Turbo (7 pm)
  • $150 No-Limit Hold’em Turbo and Big Blind Ante (10 pm)

June 8: WSOP Event #19, $565 Pot-Limit Omaha (Unlimited Rebuys)

June 16: WSOP Event #34, $1,000 Double Stack No-Limit Hold’em (10,00 starting stack, unlimited re-entry, Day 1A on June 16, Day 1B on June 17).

June 23: WSOP Event #48, $1,500 Monster Stack No-Limit Hold’em (15,000 starting stack, no re-entry, two starting flights, 60-minute blind levels).

July 7: WSOP Event #68, $1,111 Little One Drop No-Limit Hold’em (10,000 starting stack, unlimited re-entry, three Day One starting flights).

Best Tournaments on the Strip

The Rio isn’t the only place hosting major poker events this summer. In fact, some of the best tournaments are a mile away, on the fabulous Las Vegas Strip. Aria, Wynn, Venetian, and Planet Hollywood, all have a poker series scheduled for May into July. There are hundreds of tournaments between these casinos, so I have picked out the tournaments I think you’ll love best.

Aria Poker Classic: Daily  no-limit hold’em tournaments at 11 am and 7 pm, with buy-ins at $400 in the morning and $240, with mixed games and additional forms of poker replacing NLH on certain days. Series concludes with $570 buy-in WPT500, with the first of nine Day One starting flights. Aria’s daily tournaments are always profitable thanks to a reasonable blind structure.

Planet Hollywood Phamous Poker Series: Planet Hollywood will host its annual Phamous Poker Series, which has a solid selection of tournaments from May 24-July 15. The top tournaments scheduled:

  • May 27, $250 H.O.R.S.E (10,000 starting stack, 30-minute blinds, $10,000 guaranteed)
  • May 30, $250 Omaha Hi-Low (10,000 starting stack, 30-minute blinds, $10,000 guaranteed, one-day event)
  • June 3, $200 $40K in a Day No-Limit Hold’em (15,000 starting stack, 30-minute blinds, $40,000 guaranteed, big blind ante format, one-day event)
  • June 6, $600 Goliath Milly No-Limit Hold’em (20,000 starting stack, 30/40/60-minute blinds, $1 million guaranteed, six Day One starting flights).

  • June 30, $2,200 Main Event No-Limit Hold’em (25,000 starting stack, 40/60-minute blinds, $2 million guaranteed, four Day One starting flights).

Venetian DeepStack Extravaganza: Venetian hosts some of the best tournaments in Las Vegas throughout the year, especially during the summer. Let’s take a look at the best events Venetian has planned for summer 2018.

  • May 25, $600 SuperStack No-Limit Hold’em (20,000 starting stack, 40-minute blinds, $250,000 guaranteed, big blind ante format, two Day One starting flights).
  • May 28, $1,100 Summer Kickoff No-Limit Hold’em (20,000 starting stack, 40-minute blinds, $500,000 guaranteed, two Day One starting flights).

Wynn Summer Classic: I absolutely love the new Wynn Poker Room, which is actually over at Encore. The summer tournaments, such as the ones below, can be quite profitable.

  • June 2, $550 No-Limit Hold’em (18,000 starting stack, 30-minute blinds, $100,000 guaranteed).
  • June 13, $550 Pot-Limit Omaha (18,000 starting stack, 30-minute blinds, $100,000 guaranteed)

The Grand Poker Series (Golden Nugget – Downtown on Fremont Street): Getting away from the Strip and Rio to hangout on Fremont Street and play some poker is never a bad idea.

  • May 31, $150 No-Limit Hold’em (15,000 starting stack, 30-minute blinds, $150,000 guaranteed, nine Day One starting flights).
  • June 7, $200 No-Limit Hold’em (15,000 starting stack, 30/40/60-minute blinds, $250,000 guaranteed, nine Day One starting flights).
  • June 28, $570 No-Limit Hold’em (25,000 starting stack, 40/60-minute blinds, $500,000 guaranteed, three Day One starting flights).

Good luck at the tables this summer. I hope you win big!
